Pay Per Click (PPC)

Pay Per Click (PPC) is the term used for advertising a website on a search engine usually through a sponsored link.

A website that is taking part in Pay Per Click can appear next to organic listings for certain keywords or key phrases (Search Terms). As a general rule most Pay Per Click search engines charge per click through from a visitor via a sponsored link.

Pay Per Click search engine advertising or `Sponsored Links` as its commonly known allow website owners to be able to take part in targeted advertising by providing (usually) text advert placements alongside natural organic results for specific search terms used on the search engines.
By Mid August 2005 13 billion sponsored advertisements had been shown on the search engines (Nielson//NetRatings, 2005)

Pay Per Click Costs
A website owner pays the search engine the amount of money bid for that sponsored link which can range from (depending on search engine) 10 pence to £10 (per visitor click through) for more popular search terms.
