Search Engine Dampening

Dampening is a term used in search engine optimisation and related to when a search engine has applied a restriction on the relevance score your website receives for certain keywords / key phrases.

Google is said to be applying this technique as one way to deal with websites that have been SEO`d or are spam and we think that most of the other major search engines are incorporating this type of technique into their algorithms as well.

One area thought to cause a dampening filter to kick in is large quantities of inbound links in a short space of time. It is said that Google is holding back relevance points on all new incoming links to a website as a way of targeting the major link buying market.
